Best of British Wrestling

Wicksteed Park - October 25th 2006

Wicksteed Park was once again host to Best of British Wrestling as Britains finest wrestling stars competed for glory and honour before a thrilled crowd at Wicksteed Park, Kettering.

Starting off the show in fine fashion were two of the greatest Lightweight Wrestling stars from the golden age of professional wrestling.   Steve Grey took on Johnny Kidd for the first time in years in this thrilling best of 3 falls contest.  Both men showed the kind of skills that are rarely found these days and proved to all in attendance that what they lacked in size they more than made up for in technical brilliance.  After an extremely close contest Steve Grey took the win 2 falls to 1 when he made Jonny Kidd submit.

Winner Steve Grey

The following contest seemed like it had been put in place to injure Rowdy Ricky Knight as he was tasked with taking on relative newcomer Rocker Richards and Jace the Ace in a 3 way submission match.  Both Jace the Ace and Rocker Richards, who was accompanied by his mentor John Chapman, decided that the best way to eliminate the crowd favourite Rowdy one was to team up and systematically dismantle the veteran.  There dastardly plan however backfired as the Rocker and Chapman were all too clumsy assaulting Jace the Ace, this gave Ricky Knight the opening he needed and he made short work of Chapman and Richards leaving only Jace the Ace left to overcome.  In the end the support of the fans and his immense knowledge led Ricky Knight to a convincing win.

Winner Ricky Knight eliminating both Rocker Richards and Jace the Ace

Next on the agenda was a womens match featuring two of the top female talents in the UK.  Erin Angel took on Sweet Saraya in a match that has thrilled fans in halls across the length and breadth of the country.  These two tough women fought a tough battle only to have it end in controversial fashion with outside interference from Filthy Phil Powers.  Behind the referees back Phil Powers assaulted Sweet Saraya which led to Erin gaining a dubious win.

Winner Erin Angel

Ater the interval it was time for the main events of the evening, firstly a Best of British Wrestling Title match which pitted Champion "Wonderkid" Jonny Storm against "Pukka" Darren Burridge.  This match started out with a fine display of sportsmanship from both men, however as the importance of this match started to fray the temper of Burridge who was getting increasingly frustrated at being unable to put away the Wonderkid.  Following a flurry of aerial offence from Storm the Pukka one decided that if he was to overcome the wonderkid and the fans in attendance then he would need to take the rules to the limit and after a gruelling match he was finally able to put away the wonderkid with the Chav Lock, in the process become the new BOBW Heavyweight Champion.

Winner, and NEW CHAMPION Pukka Darren Burridge

The final match of the evening was also to turn out to be the most brutal as Filthy Phil Powers and Domino took on Ravin Charlie Rage and Paul Tyrell.  If ever a match could be called personal this was it, Paul Tyrell and Phil Powers were tag team partners for many years as the essex boys but there friendship soured and turned to hatred once Tyrell saw the light and realised that he wanted to play by the rules.  In response Powers has teamed with the biggest man in British Wrestling, the mighty Domino.  Charlie Rage and Domino have a well established hatred for each other and this match showed just how much all the men involved hated each other.  From the off former partners Tyrell and Powers beat each other senseless with interference from Domino at every opportunity Charlie Rage was clearly becoming enraged in his corner watching his partner get attacked by both men.  Charlie Rage finally managed to get the tag, to the delight of the crowd and proceeded to take it to Powers and Domino but it wasn't long before they were able to cheat their way back into control.  In response to Phil Powers earlier intervention in the Womens match Rowdy Ricky Knight rushed the ring and assaulted Phil Powers, the fight that ensued led to Phil Powers, Paul Tyrell and Ricky Knight going to the back.  This left the two enormous men in the ring as Charlie Rage and Domino took there feud to new levels of brutality culminating in both men taking an almighty tumble over the top rope to the floor.  With both men too exhausted to beat the count the match was ruled a no contest.

NO CONTEST as Charlie Rage and Domino unable to beat the count.

Clarach Bay 28th August

Clarach Bay Holiday Village was rocked by the stars of Best of British Wrestling on the August Bank Holiday.  In an action packed afternoon of the finest professional wrestling in the UK Steven Docherty defeated Rocker Richards in a contraversial victory when it emerged that Steven infact had a twin, Gary, who was hiding underneath the ring!!!!  Following a challenge made by Rocker Richards manager for the bout Steve Morocco, the tag match was signed for the second half.

With a little help from the fans in attendance who took great pleasure in "bashing the baddy" Morocco and Richards fell short and the twins from Scotland won the bout.  Surely this wont be the last time that we see these four in the ring as Richards and Morocco were enraged and demanded a re-match for an upcoming show!
